“19th Century Serbia as Seen through the Eyes of Its Contemporary Artists” is designed with a wish to bring Serbian culture closer to an American audience. The web site is designed to show the history of Serbia through the works of its arts. My extensive research has shown that no one before me attempted to do similar overview of its nation and history, which is what makes this project very unique.

This website is designed as a prototype a for relatively inexpensive communication tool that can contribute to the better understanding of history and culture of one nation. Nations around the world hold their art treasures either on the walls of their museums or keep them in secluded depositories of museums around the world; however, thanks to digital photography, broadband internet and portals like YouTube and Facebook, these art works can now reach millions of people around the world with a simple click of a mouse. With a collaboration between web designers, writers and art historians, the rich culture and history of any nation can be rediscovered in a completely new way.

There is no doubt that art has much to offer. After all, by observing pyramids in Giza or decorations on accent Greek vases we are learning about culture, history and the struggles of these civilizations, learning what made these civilizations great. Just like these well-familiar ancient works of art, all the other nations around the globe have their hidden jewels which are just to be rediscovered.
